Me,  animated

Animated profile picture created for when I joined Panimation (@Panimation.tv), a multi-platform community of equality-driven women, trans and non-binary friends within the animation community.

The challenge for me was that I so rarely use yellow in my work, especially such a bold yellow. It's similar to the yellow of my branding, but that is used so sparingly, it's more of a highlight than a foundational color. I leaned into my styles of flat blocks of color, minimal use of line, anxious characters, and then textural elements, which were new to me at this time.

Because my self portraits are usually from the chest up, I rarely have an opportunity to highlight the Charley Harper tattoo on my arm. With an animated version of my daily stretch-slump, there was a perfect chance to include it.
A collaboration with illustrator Christian Arnder.

I saw this illustration from Christian Arnder on my twitter feed and thought it would make a great animation. I contacted him to see if he was open to me tinkering with his piece and he was game.

From the original illustration as a template I rebuilt the two characters in Animate. The guy is tweened except for his pant legs, which are animated with the bone tool to keep the single, curved tube unbroken as he walks. The thought guy is a puppet built out of animated symbols to get the slight undulating effect.

It was animated at 24 fps and then posterized at 12 fps to get a more cartoony vibe in After Effects.

An animated series of GIFs created for Buffalo is Creative, the non-profit behind Creative Mornings/Buffalo.

Inspired by the work of Jeremy Fish and his residency at San Francisco City Hall, this series features photographs of the city of Buffalo sourced from local photographers as backgrounds. The animations highlight local landmarks, pieces of public art, symbols associated with Buffalo and local color to celebrate the unique places found only in Buffalo. Everything is animated in Adobe Animate. There's a mix of puppet builds and frame by frame hand drawn animation.

yay,  donuts!

A series of animated GIFs created for Buffalo is Creative, the non-profit behind Creative Mornings/Buffalo.

These came about when BIC landed Paula's Donuts as their long running breakfast partner. It was a way of celebrating their delicious and fun offerings. All the donut characters are based on actual donuts. Whether those donuts spend their free time on stand up paddle boards, or playing in fallen leaves remains up for debate. :)

All donuts designed and animated in Adobe Animate.

Featured here: It's Fall, y'all!, Get Sprinkled, and Powdered Unicyclin'

All of the GIFs in this series can be found (and we encourage using them) on giphy:

social  videos  for  rohto  jolt

A selection of videos created for Rohto Jolt, at Quinlan & Co., Inc.

The videos were animated for the Rohto Jolt instagram campaign targeting an audience of gamers. The briefs were often simple and left me with a lot of room for creative freedom. Sometimes there was a design element that they wanted to be used, like with the Mountain, and other times I had complete creative freedom, like with the sunglasses meme. Since gamers were the target audience, 8 bit was a motif I used a handful of times. It was economical to create an 8 bit product bottle and corresponding assets. It also gave them a distinct, retro appeal.

abstract  loops  (cool  &  warm)

Two animations to experiment with abstraction. My work is often literal in subject and character based, so I wanted to diverge from my comfort zone and create something engaging that was entirely shape based. There is no story, no character, but just feelings that come from shapes, textures and colors.

All animation done in Animate.
